Outdated Podcast
I think it's incredibly worth while to spend time revisiting previous works. Like with a second read of a book, you always spot things you might have glossed over initially. This video, produced by myself for EcomBrands, is a vlog style podcast highlighting the journey of Outdated's founders Mitch and Cooper.
It was the first video I produced for the company and the first time I had ever created something like this. We had a great time filming and overall I was very happy with the outcome. However this isn't to say there isn't anything I could improve upon. For instance:
Audio: Never underestimate the importance of consistent, quality audio. It doesn't have to be A tier, but keep it clean and consistent throughout. Adobe Podcast Enhance can only take it so far.
Lighting: We were lucky to have amazing natural lighting that contrasted nicely with our subjects. However, as I like to think, its all about value. Ensure your subjects have depth. A good balance of shadows and highlights are essential, but focusing on your midtones is often what is forgotten, and most crucial for depth. I find art study to be a great tool in learning this.
Editing: This piece tested my ability greatly, and pushed me to utilise motion graphics like I never had before. But as always, I learnt that less is more. Focus on the key elements that shape the video, don't get caught up on details... This project took far too long to complete for that exact reason.
Overall, this was one hell of a fun video to produce and thats why we do it.
