Early Bird Gets The Worm. (Short Film.)

Early Bird Gets the Worm is a short documentary that captures the inspiring story of Simone, an Italian baker who migrated from Milan to Adelaide, where he and his brother opened Bolla Milano. The film explores Simone’s early mornings, dedication to craft, and the quiet discipline behind baking, offering audiences a glimpse into the unseen hours of his day.

Creative Approach

The film was shot, edited, and produced solely by myself, with an emphasis on visual isolation to make Simone feel like “the only person in the world.” To achieve this, I used:

  • Shallow depth of field to create intimacy and focus.

  • Dramatic, low-key lighting to evoke atmosphere and a sense of solitude.

  • Reflective pacing and sound design to balance inspiration with quiet contemplation.

I wanted this film to feel dreamy, inspirational, and motivating, while retaining a reflective undertone. The film encourages audiences to admire the unseen work that fuels passion and craftsmanship. In this case, the art of baking.
